Joy has spent the past two decades providing design and creative direction services for dozens of clients. She knows how to deliver creative excellence while collaborating with clients, stakeholders, vendors, and diverse creative teams. She also takes pride in making sure everyone is having a fun time along the way, all while keeping projects on track and within budget.

A Lifelong Obsession with Music

Joy has been collecting soundtracks, making mix tapes, burning CDs, and populating playlists since she was old enough to work a tape recorder. She’s logged countless hours spinning CDs in her Walkman, scouring musicians’ MySpace profiles, digging through crates at record stores, snooping around Spotify and Bandcamp for promising new acts, and seeing artists in tiny venues years before they bloomed into Grammy winners.

Taught by Some of the Best in the Biz

Joy has been mentored by two highly-accomplished and long-time music supervisors: Jennifer Pyken and Brienne Rose. Under their guidance and instruction, she’s learned how to do it all, from script to final mix.

These mentorships have also led to Joy forming relationships with various agents at music libraries, publishers, composers, songwriters, and independent artists.

You’d be smart to snatch up Joy as your music supervisor: she has her finger on the pulse and always seems to know what artists are hot and pushing the bounds of creativity before the rest of the world catches up. If you want bragging rights and a thicker wallet, you’ll listen to her suggestions of what smaller artists to check out now, before they blow up and while their tickets and licensing fees are still affordable. Since Joy hypes up my music, I can only hope this means my fate is sealed for my artistry as well.

  • Music supervisors work closely with directors, producers, and other creatives to enhance the emotional impact and storytelling of a project through the strategic placement of music. We also make sure all music is appropriately licensed.

  • Music coordinators support music supervisors by attending to the clerical and administrative activities related to finding and placing music in a production, including: recruitment, rights management, budgeting, and contracts.

    Need an extra brain and set of hands? Joy’s ready to lighten the load.

  • A music synchronization license, or “sync” for short, is a music license granted by the holder of the copyright of a particular composition, allowing the lincensee to synchronize their music with forms of various media output, such as films, TV shows, commercials, video games, and other audiovisual productions.

    If you’re using music in a visual medium that will be shown and/or distributed to an audience, you’re legally required to have it licensed. Joy knows who to reach out to and how to make it happen.

  • Music curation involves selecting genres, artists, and specific songs that are used to sonically define brands, underscore different events, pieces of media, or as ambient music in public spaces, such as retail environments and restaurants.
